Every year we pack the truck, load the kids and head to Hatteras. As soon as we hit Highway 12 the windows go down and the air fills my lungs.
It's almost like a sacred ritual.
There is something magical about that air. The way it smells, the way it feels on my skin, the way it tastes.
It's what I imagine Heaven feels like.
Each year we bring home so many new memories. We bring home sunkissed skin, buckets of shells and one small mason jar full of sand. My collection of sand spans from Rodanthe to Ocracoke.
They are my most favorite souvenirs.
Tonight, I opened a jar and sprinkled a little bit of "Hatteras" in the bottom of our soap molds. I added a rich batch of goat's milk soap and a fragrance reminiscent of dune grass and salty air. I topped it off with sea salt and have set it aside for the night.
It's going to be a long 6 weeks waiting for these bars to cure.
The sand and salt will be an amazing and natural exfoliator, allowing the soap to drench your skin. The fragrance will take your mind for a ride down Highway 12.
Remember when the ocean is on your left and the sound is on your right - you're almost there! XOXO
